This 3-part series will take place virtually on 3 Thursdays (September 10th, 17th, and 24th) from 7:30 - 8:30pm. These workshops are recommended for students in 10th and 11th grades and parents are welcome to join as well. Each night, we’ll do a deep dive into a different topic area, including:
Session 1: Building a Balanced List (September 10th, 7:30 - 8:30)
Students often build their college list from schools that are nearby, colleges their friends are interested in, and social media posts. This isn’t a terrible strategy, but may ignore great schools or focus on schools that aren’t a great match for the student. We’ll talk about how to do the introspective work to identify what truly matters to you in a college and then build a list that captures all the schools that might be a great fit.
Session 2: Finding a Field that Fits (September 17th, 7:30 - 8:30)
Some students have a passion for a subject from an early age, some are still unsure as they graduate from high school. Either way, going through a structured process to assess areas of strength, areas of interest, academic matches, workplace settings, and job forecasting can help students begin to narrow their focus and explore potential post-college careers.
Session 3: Navigating the Application & Essay Process (September 24th 7:30 - 8:30)
The application process has become both more simplified and more complex with the consolidation of the process through the Common App, UC Apply, and CSU Apply. This session will talk through the various components of different types of applications and how to use each to tell your story.
For any Girl Scouts joining who would like to earn their College Knowledge Badge, there will be optional worksheets provided during each session for the correlating aspects of the badge requirements.
